Some more Christmas facts, because, you know, it’s Christmas and who doesn’t love Christmas.

  • Since Christmas trees (Yolka) were banned in the Soviet Era, people would decorate New Year’s trees instead.
  • Decorations usually consisted of fruit and home-made trimmings.
  • “The custom of decorating Christmas trees was introduced to Russia by Peter the Great, after he visited Europe during the 1700’s”.
  • Russian Christmas delicacies include “roast Pirog (Russian pies made out of meat or cabbage), and Pelmeni (meat dumplings)”.
